Learning outcomes

After having passed the course the student should be able to:

  • perform a structured planning for a wind farm installation and operation using management tools
  • identify and account for different stages and stakeholders of a wind farm life cycle, including logistics, installation, operation and decommissioning
  • describe and analyse maintenance strategies, identify and evaluate the different contracts, insurances and warranties needed for a wind power project

Content

Project management of wind farm installations

Management required to meet the needs of a wind power project installation is introduced. The planning tools WBS and GANTT diagrams will be used by the student for planning of a wind farm's installation and operation. Risk factors are discussed for their impact in the supply chain.

Wind farm life cycle: Logistics, installation, operation and decommissioning

The whole life time of a wind power project will be explored in the course. Specific requirements for the logistics of a wind farm installation will be studied. Various actors and stages in the installation process including infrastructure of concern will be noted. Decommissioning as well as repowering will be regarded.

Operations and maintenance strategies, contracts, insurances and warranties

In this part operations and maintenance strategies for the operation of wind farms are included. Maintenance contracts, insurances and warranties are studied.

Instruction

The course is given as a net based course. Assignments are submitted in the e-classroom on Internet and the student is given personal feedback by the teacher. A forum for discussion is available.

Assessment

Forum posts (3 credits), and written hand-in assignment and written exams (4.5 credits).
