Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish degree of at least 180 credits (i.e. three years of full-time study), within the natural sciences, technology, the social sciences, jurisprudence or the historical/philosophical subject areas. Proficiency in English (see link: Application and requirements for the programme).

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • use and critically relate to scientific literature according to different disciplinary and interdisciplinary traditions and work methods;
  • analyse and discuss scientific concepts and their field of use;
  • critically relate to and analyse the history and development of the concept of Sustainable development;
  • scientifically communicate in oral and written form, within and between different scientific areas.

Content

The course intends to give a general introduction to theory and method studies, on an advanced level, in relation to sustainable development, interdisciplinarity and systems oriented science. The course gives an introduction to general skills that will be beneficial during the programme and later in work life within the complex field of sustainable development.

Instruction

Guest lectures, seminars, workshops and supervision with focus on communication and interaction between teachers and students.

Assessment

Students are examined through written preparation and active participation in seminars and workshops (2 credits) and trough presentation and documentation of group projects (3 credits).
