A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university

Learning outcomes

The course intends to provide advanced knowledge in a selection of current ethnological research domains.

The participants are expected on completion of the course to:

  • have acquired advanced knowledge on a selection of cultural theoretical fields
  • have developed one's ability to independently discuss both theoretical and empirical questions that concern the different themes of the course
  • have developed one's ability to independently problematise questions related to the course's thematic areas and present them in written form.

Content

Cultural theoretical studies with special emphasis on concepts such as lifeworlds, identity, gender and ethnicity. The course problematises different ways to analyse empirical material. The course is mainly based on theses and monographs within current ethnological research.

Instruction

Teaching is organised in one or more of the following forms: lectures, seminars, laboratory sessions, supervision. Attendance to teaching is compulsory to 75%.

Assessment

The course is assessed in one or several of the following forms: home exam, PM-writing, group assignments, active seminar participation, oral examination. For students who do not receive a grade of Pass at the regular examination, another examination session is organised afterwards. The course applies the grading scale Pass with distinction, Pass or Fail.
