Content

The course begins with an introduction to visual communication and communication theory. It then takes up angle of view and visual composition using 1-4 point perspective, projection and rotation. Moving images as expressive narrative elements of films and games are studied using camera position, movement and the focal length of the lens. The course continues with character design of human or anthropomorphic characters. These are expressed on a story board based upon their function and form and then used for introductory animation exercises. Components of artistic expression such as lines, shapes, volumes, colours and light are studied throughout the course.

Instruction

Teaching consists of lectures, seminars and workshops.

Assessment

Grades awarded for the course are Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail. Course assessment is by means of written and artistic reports. To achieve the overall grade Pass with Credit, a Pass with Credit grade is required for the majority of the reports and the final assignment.
