General provisions

The course is common to all specialisations within the degree programme in specialist nursing

Entry requirements

For admission to the degree programme in specialist nursing is required of The National Board of Health and Welfare issued professional status qualification as nurse and Degree of Bachelor extensive 180 credits with at least 90 credits within the main field of study health sciences, health sciences with a specialisation in nursing, nursing, nursing or the equivalent foreign degree. Furthermore, work is required as nurse equivalent smallest 12 months of full time duty. The specialisation Prehospital care furthermore requires at least driving licence B.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • account for quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
  • evaluate and argue for choice of design and method
  • evaluate academic studies critically
  • analyse, evaluate and apply theories, models and concepts in caring sciences on scientific issues in clinical situations
  • analyse, evaluate and discuss caring sciences issues considering relevant social and health care ethical aspects
  • integrate knowledge as well as analyse, assess and handle complex issues based on limited information
  • reflect on research ethical positions
  • identify and evaluate his or her need of additional knowledge in the area

Instruction

Teaching

The teaching includes group exercise, individual literature studies, seminars and web-based lectures.

Compulsory parts

Seminars and study assignments with written report.

Assessment

Examination takes place on several occasions during the course and consists of individual written assignments and seminars.

Other directives

Student failing examination the first time is allowed 4 re-examinations.(= in total 5 examinations). After 5 failed examinations, the student can lose his or her position in the programme. If special circumstances apply, the programme committee can allow additional examinations.

Each occasion that the student participates in examination is counted as an examination attempt. Submission of so called blank exam is regarded as one examination.

According to the decision by the Faculty of Medicine (Dnr 3579/98, 3651/98I) the student should hand in a written application to the course director/dean to be allowed to participate in examination a fourth time. Course director/director of studies should analyse the situation thereafter together with the student and when necessary offer support actions in order to optimise the student's preparations before examination.
