General provisions

The course is elective and is included in the Specialist nursing programme with focus on district nurse.

The course consists of clinical placement 7.5 credits. The course can also be implemented in international exchange programme.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student will be able to

Knowledge and understanding

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge in the district nurse's field of knowledge
  • demonstrate advanced knowledge of educational theories and didactics in connection with information and teaching

Skills and ability

  • demonstrate advanced knowledge in specific nursing in the district nurse's field of knowledge
  • demonstrate an understanding of cultural aspects of the organisation and field of nursing in the current activities
  • plan and implement teaching and instructions for different categories of students and health-care personnel
  • analyse and assess and act in complex health care situations
  • prepare strategies for implementation of national and international research results and initiate change management in the discipline

Judgement and approach

  • with a professional approach advocate the rights of the patient and the family/close relations
  • evaluate his/her knowledge and skills at work and in his/her teaching - and leadership role
  • reflect on his/her ability to apply acquired knowledge and experiences in new situations

Supervision by specialist nurse in collaboration with clinical lecturer/clinical senior lecturer

Literature studies

Preparation of minor essay

Seminars

COMPULSORY PARTS

Introduction to course, seminars, proficiency training, clinical placement, study assignments with written and oral presentation.

Assessment

Examination of the course implies assessment of knowledge, skills and attitudes according to formulated learning outcomes, AssCE-form (Löfmark, A.& Thorell-Ekstrand, I. 2009) study assignments and clinical examinations related to the course objectives.
