Entry requirements

120 credits including 60 credits Chemistry, knowledge and skills to Biochemical methods I, or equivalent. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • plan and carry out biochemical experiments correctly using advanced biochemical analysis.
  • describe suitable methodology for studies of structure/activity relationships in proteins
  • use computer programs for analysis of complex experimental data.
  • use computer programs for homology modelling of protein structure.

Content

Analytical methods for measurements of enzyme activity. Methods for studies of receptor-ligand interactions. Data analysis. Molecular graphics and structural modelling of proteins.

Instruction

The course is given in the form of lectures, exercises and laboratory sessions. Participation in laboratory sessions and exercises is compulsory.

Assessment

Written examinations are organised at the end of the course and/or during the time of the course and correspond to 2 HE credits. The laboratory sessions and other compulsory parts correspond to 3 HE credits. To pass final grades it is required that all parts have been assessed passed. The final grade corresponds to a weighted average of the results of the written examination and the laboratory sessions.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
