Entry requirements

Bachelor of Science (i.e. three years of full-time studies), s including 90 credits in Chemistry. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

After the course, the student should have a solid basis for further studies within the Master programme in chemistry with specialisation in Physical Chemistry.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • present important theoretical models and discuss ideas and theories necessary for studies in physical chemistry at an advanced level.
  • present and discuss importan current research areas in physical chemistry and other areas where physical chemistry has great impact.
  • independently plan laboratory work and carry out risk assessment.
  • evaluate experimental results by means of established methods.
  • keep laboratory records and write laboratory reports.
  • find, organise and present information relating to physical chemistry available in databases and journals.

Content

Overview of the field of physical chemistry and current research trends.

Instruction

Lectures, problem solving, seminarsand literature project.

Assessment

Hand-in problems (3 credits). Written and/or oral examination (2 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
