Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- apply in depth understanding in practical work in Earth Sciences
- demonstrate strengthened basis for professional work in either geology, palaeobiology, hydrology/hydrogeology or
physical geography.
Content
Geological work at e.g. the SGU (Swedish Geological Survey) or an equivalent employer. The content of the work will be determined on the basis of the specialisation of the the previous studies. The course can be designed to include e.g. field work and sampling as a basis for a future undergraduate thesis.
Instruction
The teaching will be on an individual basis with a mentor. In general the supervision is carried out by an external employer. If the the work is planned to prepare for an undergraduate thesis, there will be an additional supervisor from the department of Earth Sciences.
Assessment
Written presentation at the end of the course.
If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
Other directives
It is primarily the student's responsibility to identify a suitable place for an internship, although the examiner can assist in the process if necessary. Before the start of the internship, the place for the internship, the supervisor at the workplace, and the work plan must be approved by the examiner. At the end of the internship, the supervisor must submit a certificate about the student's participation. A total of 15 credits Geological practice may be used in a degree in earth science.
