Entry requirements

Introduction to Sustainable Energy Transition, as well as Energy and Systems.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe the pre-conditions for different kinds of energy production
  • describe the pre-conditions for different kinds of energy usage
  • analyse what impacts the production and usage of energy in different energy systems
  • write using scientific writing methods and provide constructive criticism

Content

The course covers the production and usage of energy. The course will study the pre-conditions (e.g. from technical and sustainability perspectives) for different energy production types. Furthermore, the pre-conditions for the usage of energy will also be studied. The course will also address the connection between the production and usage of energy and provide the ability to analyse the primary factors that impact production and usage (e.g. laws, subsidies, grants, efficiency increasing measures, behavior and events in society). The course also includes study visits to energy production facilities on Gotland and guest lectures from the industry. The course ends with an individual essay which is followed by a peer-reviewing of other students' essays.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, exercises, study visits.

Assessment

Hand-in assignments and active participation in seminars (6 credits) as well as a written report (4 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
