Entry requirements

120 credits in science/engineering including Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics and a course in programming. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the students should be able to:

  • evaluate processes in the two-phase region.
  • analyse phase transitions for non-ideal gases.
  • determine pressure drop and heat transfer for two-phase flow.
  • use Python libraries for numeric analyses of thermodynamic processes.

Content

Thermodynamic potentials and relations. Phase equilibrium, phase transitions and two-phase regions. Van der Waals gases. Models for two-phase flows. Pressure drop and heat transfer for two- phase flows. Python libraries for determination of fluid and transport properties.

Instruction

Lectures and laboratory exercises.

Assessment

Hand-in assignments including computer code (1 hp). Laboratory exercises with presentation (1 hp). Oral examination (3 hp).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
