Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

• explain what characterizes a project including project roles, project methods and project documentation,
• plan, lead, implement and document a project including to conduct steering meetings,
• identify, describe and analyse the group dynamic process at individual and group level,
• describe and analyse values and motivating systems, learning styles and individual strengths,
• identify, describe and analyse one's own role in the project group,
• give an account of the significance of diversity within a group,
• describe the form, function and significance of leadership in a group and for a project,
• give and take constructive feedback.

Content

Part 1: Project knowledge and project work (6 credits):

This component looks at various project models, project organisation, aids and documents used in projects. Students will also familiarize themselves with problem definition, requirements specifications, time plans and targets. In addition, for this component, students will do practical work on a project. The project will allow students to become acquainted with such things as work distribution, information searches, interview techniques, documentation, meeting techniques, follow-up, risk analysis, report writing and presentation.

Part 2: Leadership in groups (4 credits):

The component covers the following: Identification of an individual's value system, strengths and learning style plus what drives and motivates individuals. Decision-making and differing leadership styles and how these may influence/be influenced by the project/group. How to communicate more effectively. The significance of diversity within a group and how the group dynamic process affects the behavior of individuals.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars/workshops and project supervision of project work in a group.

Assessment

Part 1: Written hand-in assignments (2 credits), active participation in seminars/workshops (1 credits) and written and oral presentation of the project assignment (3 credits).

Part 2: Written hand-in assignments (3 credits) and active participation in seminars/workshops (1 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.

Other directives

The course cannot be included in the same degree as 1TG230 Projects and Leadership or 5SD950 Projects and Leadership.
