Entry requirements

120 credits in science/engineering. Materials analysis for batteries. Participation in Rechargeable batteries. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe future cell chemistry concepts and to discuss critical parameters that should be considered for development of new cell chemistries,
  • critically analyse cell chemistries beyond conventional Li-ion technologies and to relate those to the present established cell chemistries,  
  • account for and judge pros & cons for cell chemistries under development,
  • use contemporary scientific literatures to critically evaluate the current research frontier of advanced cell chemistries.

Content

Next-generation battery chemistries and technologies, and the motivation for developing these: Li-metal, Na-ion, Mg/Ca, Li-S, Li-O2, organic electrode materials, solid-state, aqueous cells, etc.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars and lab exercises.

Assessment

Written examination (2 credits). Active participation in seminars (2 credits). Lab exercises with written reports (1 credit). 

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
