Learning outcomes

On completion of the course the student shall be able to:

  • identify and evaluate a need for material development within a specific energy system,
  • analyze and describe system-specific boundary conditions that limit possibilities in material selection,
  • motivate an existing solution and propose and evaluate alternative solutions in relation to the existing one,
  • describe consequences of alternative solutions in applicable aspects of maintenance, environment, health and final repository.

Content

Students are trained to use the acquired knowledge in materials science and material selection methodology in groups to study material technical solutions within a selected energy system.

Instruction

The course is conducted in independent and autonomous groups of 2-3 students each assigned their own energy system. The work is supported by lectures on methods and group-specific seminars.

Assessment

Active participation in seminars and final presentation (3 hp) and written report (2 hp).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
