Entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university
Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide in-depth knowledge of a selection of current ethnological and folkloristic research areas.
After completing the course, the participants are expected to:
- have acquired in-depth knowledge of a selection of culture theoretical fields
- have developed their ability to independently discuss both theoretical and empirical questions, which relate to the different areas of the course
- have developed their ability to independently problematize questions within the course area and report this in writing.
Content
The course deals with culture theoretical studies with special emphasis on contemporary concepts in qualitative empirical research. The course problematizes different ways of analyzing and presenting empirical material. It is mainly based on readings of recently published ethnological and folkloristic theses and monographs.
Instruction
Teaching is given in one or more of the following forms: lectures, seminars, laboratories, supervision. Participation in the teaching is compulsory at 75%.
Assessment
The course is assessed in one or more of the following forms: homework, PM writing, group work, active seminar participation, oral exam.
For students who have not been approved at the regular exam, another exam will be held in close connection with this. The course uses the grade scale Passed with distinction, Passed or Failed.
