120 credits in science/engineering. Materials analysis for batteries or Surface and materials analysis. Participation in Rechargeable batteries. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • show the operation of advanced functional battery materials and components and how they affect the batteries' performance and lifetime,
  • suggest, apply and evaluate appropriate characterization strategies of battery materials to assess the health and status of batteries during or after active use,
  • present and critically analyze materials and concepts proposed for next-generation battery systems,
  • use contemporary scientific literature to describe and critically evaluate the current research frontier of advanced battery materials,
  • produce scientific text that preents and critically analyzes topics in advanced battery materials.

Content

Nanomaterials for energy storage. Functional materials and components. Self-healing materials. Contemporary research topics within energy storage materials. Project about advanced materials characterization for batteries: neutron scattering, synchrotrons, tomography, spectroscopy, operando characterization techniques. Scientific literature and peer review.

Instruction

Seminars och projects.

Assessment

Written assignments (2 credits. Project with with oral and written presentations (2 credits). Active participation in seminars (1 credit).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
