Security procedures for hosting visiting researchers - Disciplinary Domain of Humanities and Social Sciences

Uppsala University is an international university and we welcome researchers and students from all over the world. The University is – and must continue to be – an open environment. This openness imposes special demands on security operations.

As a result of societal developments in recent years, security procedures are a vital necessity for ensuring that the University’s activities can be protected in a responsible and balanced way. The impact of security measures must continuously be weighed against considerations of usability and openness.

Together with the University’s other guidelines, directions and instructions in the general realm of security management, personal security, protection of property, information security, and crisis and continuity management, the procedures of the Disciplinary Domain of Humanities and Social Sciences for the reception of visiting researchers are intended to lay the foundation for active security and risk management.

The term ‘visiting researcher’ refers to individuals who are not employed by Uppsala University, such as visiting research fellows, affiliated researchers and visiting doctoral students, as well as other students not admitted to Uppsala University. These procedures only cover visiting researchers to whom it is intended to grant access rights to Uppsala University’s premises or information assets. The procedures do not cover such individuals as visitors participating in a conference or workshop organised by Uppsala University (unless the visitor receives personal rights to access University premises).
