Fedir Androshchuk

I have received my PhD from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and my second doctorate from the Institute of Archaeology, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. I have a background as a university lecturer, field archaeologist, principal investigator and museum director. My research is focused on the studies of contacts between Scandinavia, Rus, and Byzantium, as well as the role of museums in dealing with so-called contested heritage, which is a subject for political, cultural and military conflict.

During my three-month research project at the Centre, I will be analysing documentation from Swedish archaeologist  Ture Arne’s excavations of the Saltovo-Mayaki cemetery in Ukraine in 1912. This has been associated with the material reflection of the Khazarian realm. 

My contacts with Uppsala University have been established a long time ago; two of my books were published in a series by Uppsala University . The establishment of the WIVA centre has created a new and unique opportunity for collaboration with experts from around the world and the provision of feedback from scholars with different backgrounds and expertise.  

The objective of my project is to draw attention to previously unknown archaeological and bioarchaeological material and integrate it into scholarly discourse.
