Elin och Björn

Just a minute… Elin Dahlén, visiting researcher at the Department of Pharmacy, who together with Professor Björn Wettermark is all set to welcome 130 researchers in pharmacoepidemiology to Uppsala and the NorPEN 17th annual meeting.

What's happening in the University Main Building?
On 19–21 November, we have the honor of hosting the international research consortium NorPEN's 17th annual meeting here in Uppsala—and the response has been amazing. We currently have 130 registered participants from 12 countries, setting a new record by far.

Why does NorPEN choose Uppsala to host this meeting?
Uppsala and our Faculty of Pharmacy have an internationally strong research environment in pharmacoepidemiology, which undoubtedly contributed to the choice. I'm sure that our successful hosting of the EuroDURG conference this summer, which brought 300 experts from around the world to Uppsala University, also played a significant role.

What is the focus of the meeting?
NorPEN serves as a hub for many international collaborations, and the annual meeting provides an important opportunity to meet, exchange ideas, and discuss ongoing research. We also dedicate a lot of attention to junior participants, who receive valuable feedback on their work and, most importantly, make key connections for their future careers.

What specific highlights can we expect?
The entire scientific program is of a very high standard, but I must mention Helga Gardarsdottir from Utrecht University, who will speak about Nordic Countries in the Global World of Pharmacoepidemiology. Another keynote speaker I am particularly looking forward to is Stefan James, who will lecture on Lessons Learned from Registry-based RCTs of Medical Drugs.

What will visitors experience besides University auditoriums?
On the first evening, we will take visitors from further away on a guided walk through Uppsala's historic quarter. On the second evening, our faculty students will host a festive dinner at the Pharmen Student Union Building, providing both entertainment and a very pleasant experience.
