On 5–6 February, Urban Lab, Uppsala Immigration Lab (UIL) and the Centre for Health Economic Research (HEFUU) jointly organised a lunch-to-lunch workshop in Sigtuna. The workshop brought together researchers from a range of disciplines working on economic and social issues related to migration, integration, segregation, urban development and health inequalities.

The aim of the workshop was to create a meeting place for the presentation and discussion of ongoing research, as well as to identify new opportunities for collaboration and joint research initiatives. The programme covered a broad spectrum of current research topics in migration, urban development and health.

Over the two days, studies were presented on topics including economic incentives and return migration following rejected asylum applications, global health disparities between rural and urban areas, children’s development and human capital, environmental exposure and educational outcomes, the effects of parental separation on children, inequalities in health and mortality, and the role of family background in shaping life chances in Sweden.

The programme allowed ample time for both presentations and discussions, with the ambition of strengthening research exchange among participants and stimulating new collaborations in the field.

“The importance of this type of activity should not be underestimated, both for the researchers themselves and for research more broadly. Spending a day together with other scholars who share similar research interests, and having the opportunity to learn about colleagues’ work, often sparks ideas for new projects and also provides valuable input for one’s own research,” says Matz Dahlberg, Director of Urban Lab.
