The Earth System Governance Project
The Earth System Governance Project (ESG) is a global research network advancing knowledge at the interface between global environmental change and governance, from local to global scales.

The ESG Project aims to explore political solutions and novel, more effective governance systems to cope with global environmental change and help understand, imagine and realise just and sustainable futures. By mobilising scholars from the social sciences and humanities, as well as interdisciplinary fields, its mission is to stimulate a vibrant, pluralistic, and relevant research community.
From 2025, the ESG Project’s International Office is hosted by the unit for Climate Change Leadership at Uppsala University, with support from Zennström Philanthropies, UUniCORN and Fairtrans.
