Alexandra Teleki, Associate professor at the Department of Pharmacy and Center co-Director of SweDeliver, and Ann-Christin Jacobsen, former postdoc in SweDeliver, have been honored with a Best Paper Award by Drug Delivery and Translational Research. The prize acknowledges their article Intrinsic lipolysis rate for systematic design of lipid- based formulations, published in the special issue A Global Perspective of Research in Local Chapters of the Controlled Release Society, released in May 2023.

In the article, Alexandra Teleki and Ann-Christin Jacobsen – together with co-authors Aleksei Kabedev, Patrick Sinko, Johan Palm and Christel Bergström – introduce the intrinsic lipolysis rate (ILR) as a surface area-independent approach to compare lipid digestibility.

“Our results show that at a constant and low surfactant content, acylglycerol digestibility increased with decreasing acyl chain length, decreased esterification, and increasing unsaturation. With calculated ILR of pure acylglycerols, we have succeeded in predicting the IRL of binary lipid mixtures. Our measurements hold great promise as an efficient method supporting pharmaceutical formulation scientists in the design of Lipid-based formulations with specific digestion profiles,” states Ann-Christin Jacobsen.
