Sophie Gaber attends international occupational therapy congress in Bangkok

Sophie Gaber holds an oral presentation

Docent Sophie Gaber presenting at WFOT Congress in Bangkok, February 2026.

Docent Sophie Gaber, researcher in our research group CIRCLE, is currently attending the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) Congress 2026 in Bangkok, 9–12 February. At the congress, she will give two oral presentations and present one poster, as well as taking part in meetings with international occupational therapy researchers.

Presentations on participation in meaningful activities for older adults and digital inequities for women experiencing homelessness

One of Sophie Gaber’s oral presentations focuses on the development of an assessment tool for mapping participation in activities and places within and outside nursing homes for older adults. The work is part of Therese Jonson’s PhD project for which she is a co-supervisor.

– We will present the ongoing process of developing this assessment instrument, as well as some preliminary findings, says Sophie Gaber.

Her second oral presentation addresses a broader interdisciplinary project that the development of the assessment tool is part of. That project is led by Professor Lena Rosenberg and brings together an interdisciplinary team from Uppsala University, Jönköping University and Karolinska Institutet. It focuses on how occupational therapists, architects, landscape architects, planners, and interdisciplinary researchers can collaborate to enhance everyday life, care, and the physical environment in and around nursing homes. This work is conducted in collaboration with Dr Anna Brorsson, a fellow occupational therapist and researcher at the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health.

In addition, she presents a poster on digital inequities among women experiencing homelessness. The study and the poster have been developed in collaboration with women with lived experience of homelessness, which presents a unique and collaborative perspective on digital health.

Looking forward to international exchange

Sophie Gaber values the diversity of participants at the WFOT Congress and the opportunity to exchange ideas between different professions and countries.

– What I really like about the WFOT Congress is the mix of people with different backgrounds and roles. You meet everyone from practitioners and students to educators and researchers. It’s a great opportunity to discuss ongoing collaborations, plan future projects, and engage with cutting-edge work.

She hopes to bring back new ideas and inspiration to share with the research group.

– I’ve always liked to go beyond my own projects and research group to broaden my perspectives. I hope that I will return with fresh ideas and inspiration to share with my colleagues.
