About the speaker
Tanya Serisier is a professor of Feminist Theory in the School of Social Sciences at Birkbeck, University of London. Her research examines the cultural politics of sexuality, consent, and sexual violence from feminist and queer perspectives, with particular attention to survivor politics, sexual danger under neoliberalism, and sex in prisons. She was a Leverhulme Research Fellow and formerly Vice President of the Australasian Women’s and Gender Studies Association.
Abstract
Over the past decade, increasing numbers of survivors of sexual violence have spoken publicly about their experiences and advocated for justice. She asks why public survivors have become so prominent in this time period. She also considers what their interventions can tell us about the politics of sexual violence today.
