Short presentation

My research and work as a surgeon mainly concerns diseases of the esophagus and stomach. My research spans randomized clinical studies, specialized physiological analyses and larger national registry studies – all to increase knowledge about our surgical procedures and thereby improve healthcare. I have published over 200 scientific articles, where several of my research results have influenced daily healthcare in a positive direction.

Biography

Specialist in surgery 1995 and senior physician at the University Hospital since 2008. Associate Professor of Surgery 2007, Adjunct Professor of Surgery 2013–2025, and Excellent Teacher 2019, all at Uppsala University. Responsibility for undergraduate and graduate education at the Department of Surgical Sciences.

Research

After defending my thesis in bariatric surgery, I have continued to investigate the physiological changes that occur after surgery and various ways to optimize surgical technique, long-term results and patient satisfaction. I am particularly interested in advanced obesity and the procedure Duodenal switch. Similarly, I strive to improve the outcome of surgical treatment of cancer and other conditions. I participate in several basic scientific studies to clarify the causal mechanisms of gastrointestinal diseases.
