Oskar Berggren

Biography

My research concerns Russian foreign politics as well as how academia and Western stakeholders seek to understand it. It has a theoretical emphasis and particularly treats the role and relevance of ontological security theory in the study of Russian politics – a theory that emphasizes psychological, existential, and identity-related factors behind political behavior.

I am one of the course conveyors on the introductory course to our master’s program in Russian and Eurasian Studies. On this course I teach about knowledge production in Russian and Eurasian Studies – covering subjects such as ontology, epistemology, area studies, and interdisciplinarity. I am also the course coordinator for the course ‘Russia’s role in world politics’ in which I teach International Relations theory applied to Russia.
