Research

Dr. Sundborger-Lunna's research focuses on unraveling the molecular mechanisms underlying membrane remodeling and cell death using a multi-disciplinary approach combining cryo-EM and complementary structural biology methods, biochemical/cell-free assays, and cell-based functional models and aims to answer an outstanding question in cell biology; How is the critical process of mitochondrial dynamics regulated and coordinated during neuronal cell death/survival signaling? The long-term objective of providing novel targets for therapeutic strategies to prevent neurodegeneration and to treat debilitating diseases like Parkinson’s and Huntingtin’s diseases.
