Short presentation

I am interested in the consequences of host-parasite interactions for biodiversity. I use population genetic, genomic and transcriptomic approaches to understand how parasites shape host genetic diversity and how this diversity responds to demographic and environmental shifts. Ultimately, I aim to understand how parasites affect the host's evolutionary trajectory and persistence in a changing world.

Research

I study diversity and evolution of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes in the sand lizard. The MHC is an important component of the immune system that is involved in the recognition of infecting parasites and often show extraordinary diversity within and between populations. Genetic drift in small and isolated populations, however, has the potential to erode this diversity, which can compromise the population's ability to cope with infections and further increase vulnerability.

I also study the consequences of genetic rescue in the Swedish sand lizard, see here for more information.

Lastly, I study the parasite diversity in Swedish sand lizard populations, for which I am developing a methodological approach using minimally invasive sampling and high-throughput sequencing. More information can be found here.
