Biography

Edgar López López completed his undergraduate studies at the Universidad Veracruzana, where he obtained his degree as a Clinical Chemist in 2019. From 2019 to 2021, he pursued postgraduate studies at the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute (CINVESTAV), where he earned a Master of Science degree; subsequently, from 2022 to 2026, he obtained a Doctor of Science degree with a specialization in Pharmacology from the same institution.

Currently, Edgar is a postdoctoral researcher affiliated with the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences at Uppsala University, Sweden, where he develops a research line dedicated to building artificial intelligence-based predictive models for the identification and biological evaluation of toxic molecules against aquatic organisms. This research line is funded by the "industry–academia–government" program led by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research (MISTRA Safe Chem), as well as by the pharmaceutical company Merck.

His scientific output comprises more than 40 publications in prestigious peer-reviewed international journals, which have been cited on more than 1,200 occasions. He serves as a reviewer for more than ten prestigious international journals and acts as a topic coordinator for multiple international scientific journals. In 2016, he was honored with the Academic High Performance Award, granted by the Universidad Veracruzana, in recognition of his outstanding academic record. In 2020, he received the "HOT Article" honorable mention for publishing one of the most frequently accessed articles in the journal RSC Advances. In 2022 and 2024, he received the "Top 10 Cited Article" recognition for publishing the most cited articles in the scientific journal Molecular Informatics. In 2024, he was awarded the "Top 100 Future Leaders" prize by the American Chemical Society, which selects the most outstanding young researchers in the Americas. That same year, he was distinguished as a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, considered the world's most important chemical society. Finally, in 2025, he received the "Nobel Alumni" distinction, awarded by the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting organization, in recognition of being one of the most outstanding young researchers in the field of chemistry worldwide.
