Biography

Saaransh Saxena is a PhD researcher in the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences at Uppsala University. He holds an MSc in Pharmaceutical Modelling from Uppsala University and an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California. Prior to starting his PhD, he gained industrial experience in pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing, including research at AstraZeneca on powder behaviour and material properties in continuous pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Research

Research focuses on the mechanistic understanding and predictive modelling of pharmaceutical particulate systems relevant to inhalation drug delivery. The work investigates how particle formation processes, particularly spray drying, govern particle morphology, interparticle interactions, and bulk powder behaviour. By integrating mechanistic modelling, advanced material characterization, and machine learning approaches, the research aims to establish predictive frameworks for the rational design and optimization of inhalation powder formulations.
