Biography
I am a PhD student at the Faculty of Law and UCRS Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies. My PhD project deals with domestic implementation of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and their impact on post-Soviet states' legal systems. The doctoral project belongs to the growing field of empirical legal studies and aims to understand the reasons for widespread noncompliance with the judicial decisions of the ECtHR in post-communist states. In addition, the project is interested in the relationship between judgment compliance and effectiveness of supranational courts, namely, whether the court can have a positive effect (and if so, what effect) on a country’s legal and political system without achieving a high rate of compliance with its judgments.
