Description

Current construction practices predominantly follow linear models rather than circular principles. Circular principles focus on strategies such as reducing, reusing, repairing, remanufacturing, and recycling building materials to minimize waste.

In recent years, growing interest and awareness of the benefits for adopting circular principles in the construction sector have led to increased research as well as national and international pilot studies. These studies cover the entire construction value chain, from material manufacturing to design, construction, and policymaking, all aimed at promoting circularity within this sector. Given the rapid growth of research on this topic, there is a clear need for this project, which aims to conduct an up-to-date literature review to analyze and understand the current state of the art, identify new findings, and highlight existing knowledge gaps that require further research to accelerate the transition to a circular construction sector.
