On April 1st, Hanfeng Chen successfully defended his dissertation Rethinking Monetary Policy Transmission: Nonbank Finance, Central Bank Digital Currencies, and the Role of Bank Market Power.

About the Dissertation

Hanfeg Chen's dissertation is titled Rethinking Monetary Policy Transmission: Nonbank Finance, Central Bank Digital Currencies, and the Role of Bank Market Power. The dissertation consists of three essays focusing, among other things, on how banks and other financial actors are affected by monetary policy and how central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) may influence the banking system.

About the Defence

Lorenzo Burlon, Head of the Bank Lending Conditions Section, Monetary Analysis Division of the European Central Bank, served as the opponent at the dissertation defence. The grading committee consisted of Martin Flodén, Stockholm University, Anders Ögren, Uppsala University, and Teodora Borota Milicevic, Uppsala University. Hanfeng Chen's advisors were Daria Finocchiaro from Stockholm University and Mikael Carlsson from the Department of Economics.
