About the thesis
The thesis examines how family outcomes, fertility, and inequality are shaped by preferences, norms, and economic incentives.
The first essay shows that both partners’ family backgrounds affect fertility, with women having a stronger influence, especially when they have higher relative earning potential. The second essay studies how fertility preferences and women’s biological clock could affect partner matching theoretically. The model predicts that individuals with stronger fertility preferences marry earlier and accept lower-quality matches. The third essay develops a theory of how ownership structure affects firms’ environmental behavior, showing that firms with more dispersed ownership tend to pollute less.
