QUEEN Network

Queer Refugees Research in the Nordics Network

People fleeing persecution due to their sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or sexual characteristics (SOGIESC) represent a particularly vulnerable group of migrants during both the asylum and integration processes. The extensive and well-established research landscape exploring the experiences and specific conditions of LGBTQI+ refugees in the Nordics underscores the critical need for scholars to collaborate and engage in ongoing discussions. By sharing insights and findings, researchers can better understand the various forms of discrimination, human rights violations, and obstacles that LGBTQ+ refugees face.

The aim of the network is to strengthen Nordic scholarly communities by addressing the challenges of SOGIESC asylum and integration at an intra-Nordic level. Additionally, the QUEEN Network seeks to serve as a bridge between academics and practitioners.

Originally funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the QUEEN (QUeer rEfugees rEsearch in the Nordics) Research Network was founded by scholars from the Nordic countries and is currently led by Marlene Spanger (Aalborg University), May-Len Skilbrei (University of Oslo), and Thomas Wimark (Uppsala University).

Rules for the QUEEN list

In order for the list to function as constructively as possible, we have compiled some rules. It is important that these rules are respected.

Responsibility, information and personal data

  • There is no moderator for the list, which means that the person who writes a message is responsible for its content
  • You are allowed to inform about events, new books and the like, as long as you do not “over-advertise”
  • The Queen list is not a forum for debate or blog-like posts. If you want to comment on a message on the list, it should be done privately, directly to the sender and not to all recipients of the list
  • It is also not allowed to post another person's email address on the list without permission from the person concerned
  • In posts on the Queen list, we treat each other with respect. Derogatory or offensive comments about other people are not allowed

Attachments, chain letters, email size and copyright

  • Due to the risk of spreading viruses, it should be avoided to send out emails with attachments.
  • It is also not allowed to send out appeals, chain letters or the like.
  • Emails larger than 40 kB are not allowed on the list.
  • It is not allowed to violate copyright, for example by copying a text from another context and pasting it in its entirety. However, it is permitted to make short quotes with a stated source and/or to provide a link where the full text can be read
  • Emails that for some reason (for example, invalid e-mail address or full mailbox of the recipient) bounce several times will be automatically blocked

Removal from the email list for violating the rules

We reserve the right to remove individuals who violates the list rules

Actions that violate applicable legislation will result in removal from the list and may be reported to the police. For example, defamation or personal attacks, posts or links to content that can be classified as incitement against a group of people, sexist statements or other harassment.
