Algebra Seminar: Constructing the affine partition category

Abstract: The focus of this talk will be to present a new diagrammatic construction for the affine partition category. We will begin by first defining the partition category and presenting some of its core properties. Next we will discuss the concept of "affinizing" a diagram category by reviewing some examples. Here we will highlight some of the unique features and obstacles in the setting of the partition category. We will then detail the construction of the affine partition category and summarise the main results we obtained. Lastly, we compare what we have done to other constructions and results, and discuss some future work. Since the partition category contains many diagram categories as subcategories, this talk should serve as a gentle introduction to various diagram categories (in particular, those which emerge from Schur-Weyl Duality).
