About the Department of Musicology
The Department of Musicology at Uppsala University is the oldest musicology department in Sweden. The music scholar Carl-Allan Moberg (1896-1978), who got his PhD in 1927, was installed as the first professor in musicology (the field was originally called music research) in 1947. Today, the field is represented at a number of universities across the country.
Department board
Members of the department board are divided into two categories: administrative staff and teachers/scholars, who are elected for three years. The other category is student members, who are elected for one year. Members of administrative staff and teachers/scholars are chosen by elections arranged by the department. Student members are elected through elections not arranged by the department.
