Research areas

The relationships of the sponges have been difficult to elucidate due to having very few characters that can be used for comparisons. With the DNA sequence data, we are now getting more useful data, and it turns out that the current classification agree very poorly with the phylogenetic relationships. We are thus working on a comprehensive revisions within the taxon Suberitida.

Despite a long tradition of marine zoological research in Sweden, our sponge fauna is still rather poorly known, and we thus also study the occurrence and distribution of the sponge species that occur in Sweden.
