On December 13, one of the 2025 Nobel laureates, Michel Devoret, visited Uppsala University and met representatives of the initiative in quantum technology at the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Within the initiative, quantum information is integrated into existing activities at the Centre for Geometry and Physics, an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The purpose of the centre is to bring together researchers in theoretical physics and geometry. By incorporating quantum information into the centre’s activities, the department’s activities within WINQ (Wallenberg Initiative on Networks and Quantum Information) at NORDITA are also strengthened.
At the Department of Physics and Astronomy there is also a strong experimental effort in quantum technology, among other things through the Quantum Material Device Laboratory. This laboratory was recently equipped with the ELSA (Emergent Low-Temperature Spin Phenomena Lab) dilution refrigerator.
Uppsala University also offers a Master’s Programme in Quantum Technology, an interdisciplinary programme in the interface of physics and engineering. The programme is designed to provide students with both theoretical foundations and practical skills essential for advancing quantum technologies.
