Terror in French Courts and Prisons, what role for emotions?

This seminar draws on two extensive ethnographic research projects conducted in French courts and prisons conducted by Sharon Weill (International Lawyer, The American University of Paris) and Bartolomeo Conti (Sociologist, EHESS). exploring the dynamics of jihadist radicalization that have affected a significant portion of young French individuals over the past decade, and the French State's response. Using ethnographic lens from within courtrooms and prisons, and drawing on the narratives of key actors involved, the seminar aims to provide an understanding of the intersection between radicalization and the justice system in France, and how emotions had contributed to its shaping.

Open for non-Emoji members, please notify acting coordinator Nina Törnqvist (nina.tornqvist@uu.se) in advance.
