Citing and reference management
When writing a paper, it is essential to acknowledge where you got your information from. Make sure you keep track of your sources right from the start.
Library guides on reference management
Our guides teach you how, when and why to reference. The reference style guides include examples of how to cite different types of sources in the text and the bibliography. There are also tutorials for using various reference management software.
Create permanent links to sources with Perma.cc
Perma.cc is a tool for creating archived versions of web pages and permanent links to them. You can add such a link when you refer to a web page to show what it looked like when you visited it. The reader can access the archived version even if the page has since been changed or removed.
Enter a URL on Perma.cc to archive the page. You will receive a link that you can insert into your reference list. An example of a citation with a permanent link:
Althaus, S. & Leetaru, K. (2008). Airbrushing History, American Style. Cline Center for Democracy. http://www.clinecenter.illinois.edu/airbrushing_history, archived at http://perma.cc/G8PW-798L
User account
You need a user account to use Perma.cc. You can store up to ten links with a free individual account. As a student or researcher at Uppsala University, you can also get an account through the University Library, where you can store an unlimited number of links. Please note that the links you have saved in Perma.cc are visible to the Library's administrators.
Further support in citing and reference management
The Library offers courses in citing and reference management software. These can be found in the course calendar.
If you need more help, you can book individual guidance from a librarian.
