Jonas Almlöf and Patrik Smeds have been appointed as leaders of the informatics work package at Clinical Genomics Uppsala (CGU). The joint leadership will strengthen CGUs capabilities in both bioinformatics and IT infrastructure.
Jonas Almlöf has a background in computer science and genetics association studies as well as protein structure simulations. Since joining CGU in 2019, Jonas has focused on developing bioinformatic applications for solid tumors. He has for example coordinated the recent work with national harmonization and update of the GMS Solid gene panel according to clinical recommendations.
– Leading this team, my goal is to leverage new technologies to bridge the gap between research and clinical reality, providing the tools needed for personalized patient care, says Jonas.
Patrik Smeds has a background in computer science and has worked in both the private sector and academia. Patrik has worked at CGU since 2016, and has played a key role in developing automated bioinformatic workflows, visualization of genomic data, as well as developing the Hydra genetic pipeline framework - a specialized system for building and managing the complex genomic analysis pipelines.
– I’m excited to lead this talented team alongside Jonas. We aren’t just looking to meet the increasing needs of modern diagnostics; we’re looking to redefine them. By integrating new technologies with our existing systems, we will ensure that CGU remains at the forefront of clinical automation and patient care, says Patrik.
