In the U-SCREEN study, we want to investigate whether self-screening for risk conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar and low kidney function can reduce cardiovascular disease and premature death in the long term.
High blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and kidney failure are risk conditions that are often undetected and untreated, as they rarely cause any symptoms. These risk conditions lead to significant illness, suffering, and high mortality. There are effective treatments for these risk conditions.
It is unknown whether screening is an effective way to detect the risk conditions. With U-SCREEN, we want to find out if it can be.
People who turn 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, or 75 years old and live in Uppsala County are randomly selected to be or not to be invited to participate in this self-screening. For most, the entire self-screening can be conducted at home.
