The Uppsala University Jazz Orchestra, conducted by Erik Tengholm, pays tribute to two of jazz’s most influential innovators, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, both of whom would have turned 100 in 2026.
Their impact on the development of jazz—particularly during the 1950s and 1960s—was immense, and to this day audiences and musicians around the world continue to cite them as enduring favourites. Neither Davis nor Coltrane ever led a big band of their own, but in this concert their music will be heard in a big band setting.
The concert also features guest soloist Håkan Broström, the ever-relevant saxophone veteran and one of the most prominent voices on the Swedish jazz scene for many years, as a soloist, composer, and arranger. He is also widely regarded as one of Sweden’s foremost experts on John Coltrane.
