Enzymologi och riktad evolution av proteiner
Enzymer karaktäriseras av en oöverträffad effektivitet och selektivitet vad gäller kemisk katalys. Ofta kan enzymer särskilja olika stereoisomerer av samma molekyl och acceptera endast den ena isomeren som substrat. Dessa egenskaper gör enzymer mycket attraktiva som syntesverktyg för kiral syntes där produktrenhet är avgörande.
Vi studerar sambanden mellan enzymers struktur och deras funktion för att utifrån det vi lär oss kunna utveckla nya enzymer för katalys av nyttiga kemiska reaktioner. Vi är framför allt intresserade av reaktioner som innefattar omvandling och bildande av nya kirala och pro-kirala molekyler.
