Outline for distance course:
The distance education course is based on self-study and communication through the web-based learning environment, which contains all information regarding the course and course activities. Teaching takes the form of pre-recorded lectures, assigned readings, exercises, and discussions. Access to a computer with internet connection is required to follow the course, since all teaching and examinations are done online. Taking a distance learning course means that you yourself largely determine when you study, since you are not as tied to scheduled classes. Note, however, that this kind of course requires as much effort as an ordinary campus course and that it is equally important to meet set deadlines.

About the course
This survey course traces the development of Irish-language poetry during the twentieth-century, from the foundation of the Gaelic Revival movement in 1893 to the digital age. All texts are read in English translation, alongside the Irish-language original. The course examines a number of themes in the development of Irish-language poetry in the twentieth century: Irish identity; the Irish-language question; modernity and urbanisation; social and political engagement; the feminine voice. The influence of the native Gaelic literary tradition and of European and world literatures on this poetry is also considered.
