The Institute for Pentecostal Studies

The Institute for Pentecostal Studies is a collaboration between the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CRS), Uppsala University and the Academy of Leadership and Theology to promote research on Pentecostalism in Sweden and around the world.

Pentecostal Christianity, or “Pentecostal charismatic” as a more colloquial term, is today the world’s second largest Christian tradition with approximately 600 million members and followers. The majority of Pentecostal Christians are found in the Global South but are also growing in Europe and North America. Research on Pentecostalism is an expanding field and touches on both religious studies and social sciences.

Through the Institute for Pentecostal Studies, CRS and ALT collaborate with the European Research Network on Global Pentecostalism (Glopent) and are members of the network’s steering group. The Institute for Pentecostal Studies runs joint research projects, seminars and conferences, thereby offering resources and an environment for anyone who does research on topics related to Pentecostal Christianity.
