Now that Windows 11 has been forced on us, millions of people and administrations will toss away perfectly working computers. Such a waste!
In costume and with some lively comedic tricks, Marie will introduce you to the impact of this political decision on us academics.
Following that, in this workshop you will explore a solution to the problem called Linux. Linux is an operating system that allows you to perform most uses of your computer (browsing the internet, writing, editing documents and videos, etc.), even if your computer is 15 years old. If you are tired of apps, telemetry, forced updates, advertisements and AI clutter, this workshop will interest you.
- Hour 1: Introduction to end of windows 10 issues and to what Linux is and the different ways of installing it (with or without keeping Windows alongside it, with or without erasing data, etc.), the pros and cons, the possibilities, and where to go if you need support.
- Hour 2: If you bring your computer, you can test whether it works with Linux. If time allows, you can install Linux on your computer and Marie will guide you to where you can get support to do so.
Material: The first hour will not require any material, but if you are willing to try Linux, bring your laptop. If you want to install Linux permanently on it, make sure you have backed up your data.
