Jenny Sundén becomes Professor at the Centre for Gender Research
Jenny Sundén has extensive experience in research on digital media, queer-, and sexuality studies. Her current research focuses mainly on humor, shame and shamelessness in feminist activism on social media, as well as questions related to digital sexuality and intimacy.
In an interview we published when Jenny was a visiting professor at the Centre, she said about her research:
–I believe it is particularly important, in dark times of anti-feminism, racism, homo- and transphobia, and neo-puritanism, both on and beyond the internet, to protect spaces that can offer some kind of respite. Both joy and pleasure have critical and political potentials and can serve as important counterforces or provide openings where something else can take shape.
Since Jenny has been a visiting professor at the Centre for Gender Research during the 2024–25 academic year, she is already well established. She has also been involved in the Swedish Research Council-funded graduate school Gender, Humanities and Digital Cultures (GENHDI) from the very beginning, and will continue as coordinator of the graduate school going forward.
With her wide-ranging experience, strong commitment, and already close ties to the Centre, we look forward to following Jenny’s continued work here – both as a researcher and colleague.
