Postcard Stories That Matter is a digital humanities project linking personal narratives of climate
change with spatial and environmental data. The project compiles postcards from more than 30 countries, documenting local observations and experiences related to environmental shifts.
Postcards were digitized, georeferenced, and categorized through qualitative coding and text
analysis to identify recurring themes and emotional tones. Spatial data integration and visualization were conducted using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS StoryMaps, combining narrative layers with datasets
on temperature, precipitation and socioeconomic indicators.
This method demonstrates how analogue materials can be transformed into structured, geospatially linked data to support climate communication and storytelling. The visualization enables users to analyse spatial patterns in personal climate narratives and provides a framework for integrating
qualitative data with GIS tools for research and public engagement.
The project was conducted by InfraVis, Infravis users: Tatyana Sarayeva, and the AI Policy Lab
(UMU).
